Round Up!

First let's start with some football!  MSU has two recruits for the class of 2013 so far.  UM is at 5 (now upwards of 8) I want to say.  We have so far had verbal pledges from Gerald Holmes, a running back out of Flint, Michigan and Jon Reschke, a middle linebacker out of Bloomfield, Michigan.  Holmes had offers from MSU, CMU and Toledo, but also had intersted from Iowa, UM and Illinois.  Hard to say how concrete that is this early.  There is little scouting done on Holmes at this point, however, there should  be more as the summer comes and goes.   Allen Trieu of Scout has stated that Holmes has both good size and speed and missed a lot of opportunity to be seen due to an injury that caused him to miss half the season. The potential is there.

Reschke is a consensus four star linebacker at this point.  Again, due to how early this is, there is not a lot written, though ESPN lists him as a top 150 watch list (UM has 3 or 4 commits on that list already).  Jon had offers from MSU and Toledo but reportedly had interest from UM, PSU Wisconsin Northwestern and Stanford.  He seems to be a quality pickup and could end up as a top three player from the state of Michigan for the 2013 class.

Don't you just love Twitter?  Please read below.  Here are some favorites:

TerryRichardson: thats why u just a fan loser ass fuck off n get a life you fag.

AJ Williams: I smell pussy!!!

OndrePipkins:  That nigga look like a slave from Roots

MarioOjemudia:  Did bitch ass Mr. B really give me a 79.6%?  .....    the same teacher that stopped me during a test to make me give him autograph, and stops lessons just to talk about football.

I am just glad to see that America's youth is both respectful of all kinds of diversity and getting a solid education.  I am also glad that this was for UM commits, because I am sure MSU ones have similar thoughts.  I think this stuff is pretty serious, the website also states that were recruiting violations mentioned as well as alcohol use but they did not put that stuff up for legal reasons.

I generally do not tolerate sexual or racial slurs.  I hope you all feel the same way.

(I havn't read the other schools at all, Pat might be interested in the OSU ones.)
Michigan Twitter Accounts

MSU got a solid win over Purude two days ago, and UM got a huge win over OSU.  This moves MSU up to #6 and UM to #11. Not too shabby.  Right now MSU has a one game lead over OSU and UM.  The next game is Wednesday at Minnesota.  With future games homes to Nebraska at Indiana and home to OSU.  The remaining leg is tough, this game at Minny is a must win.

That's all for now.  I should get a post up tomorrow during the Minnesota game.

  1. I know these kids are "public figures" because they are recruits at Michigan, but publishing their twitter posts out of context really doesn't tell us anything significant.

It tells us just a couple things:
    1. They are high school kids
    2. They are 17 or 18 years old.

If you read the context, Richardson was responding to similar verbiage from fans attacking him on twitter...probably MSU fans. Sure, he should be more grown up and not use the language he uses but then again, he's the kid in this instance.

On AJ Williams smelling pussy...that's a raunchy thing to post but is it really worth putting on here or in any way worthy of an uproar?

With Pipkins, as someone with ancestry that makes him an African American he's allowed more leeway in his use of language than you. Is your next post going to bring up rap lyrics and how they are all racist? We could change the title of the blog to "Onpolicingthelanguageofyouths"

Ojemedia...that just sounds like Mike Banducci bitching about that art/english teacher at St. Francis and getting her fired. She sucked so she deserved it.

To me, this is a non issue. The fact that you linked that "article" is embarrassing to our blog.

  2. In fact, that article itself is just flame being thrown by someone who hates UM. They aren't even willing to put their name to it.

Would I rather not see twitter posts like these out there from kids associated with UM? You bet.

Am I going to judge these kids before they even hit campus for talk on twitter? Heck no. I'll leave that to Sparties with nothing better to do.

  3. that sounds like the reaction that something would have in a win at all costs mentality. the same person that claims his own standards are high, and everyone elses should be as high. I am sure that MSU recruits tweet similar things. but it should also be noted that this article was published on a blog that gets a lot more readership to ours.

It is interesting the effect twitter has on people in spotlights, no matter how big or small the spotlight is. I know other kids have been released from scholarships because what they have posted on twitter. so attacking this article is completely unfounded.

the excuses you make for Michigan are embarrassing to yourself and to our blog.

  4. also, i think terry richardson was respinging to a UM fan.... his twitter name is true blue and when i first looked him up he had maize and blue hat on. his twitter is down now.

a lot of the other responses to people were to OSU fans as much as i can tell. saying how they will beat ohio and urban meyer.

doesnt appear to be much sparty hate. and there isnt even any on here.

twitter is just very interesting. you should read what rainn wilson tweeted yesterday.

  5. MSU Recruit Monty Madaris. montymadaris:Difference between MOELLER and x... they have fags and we don't.

This shit is absolutely ridiculous. Maybe it's a generation thing, maybe I was raised with different values. But that word is a word that shouldn't be used. Ever. That speaks volumes to someones character.

These boys need to watch Philadelphia.

  6. Zach I agree that sort of language is offensive. But I don't think it's generational. I think it's you, and the rest of this blogs readership have the benefit of being a decade older than these kids.

Think back to conversations you had as a 17 or 18 year old, you never used language like that? I'm sure I did. I'm not proud of it and I don't think I used it a lot. But I sure as hell played Hockey and other sports with kids who did. Most of them have turned out to be just fine.

They aren't terrible kids, they probably aren't bigots. They are 18. And now they have the ability to share those thoughts outside of the locker room and they get posted ont he internet where they exist forever. So it's dumb of kids to do that. But I did a bunch of really dumb shit back in the day (and still do occassionally, though it's significantly less dumb than it used to be).

Not entirely applicable, but how about an Izzo quote from Rexrode's blog yesterday about kids making mistakes? Per usual he nailed it.

Izzo was asked for more on Kelsey Barlow squandering his second chance:

“There’s two things with that that I look at, and I had two guys I had to get rid of, on a team that was picked second in the country. And I had problems with another one. The issues are double, let’s not live in glass houses, because we were all 18, 19 and 20. This crap (fake playing a video game) and this crap (grabbing a reporter’s phone and fake texting) has changed our world. And I’m not trying to over-stick up for (Painter). But don’t think we’re not all one Thursday night away from problems. Don’t think that’s a Purdue issue, or a Michigan State issue. It’s all of our issue.

  7. youre exactly right, kenny. however, twitter adds a huge wrinkle to that. it is just out there now.

also, i dont think i ever used that word. I certainly used the word gay a lot in the same connotation. which is not a whole lot better.
