I definitely like Pizza. And I think this is an over reaction.
The O-line injuries are killing us. The unit was already under performing compared to pre-season expectations. Going into the season I would have ranked our offensive linemen in the following order in terms of guys I have the most confidence in.
1. Mcdonald 2. Jackson 3. Fonoti 4. France 5. Whichever of the Allen/Treadwell/Ruhland combination was playing.
And the gap between 3 and 4 was sizeable. Now Jackson is out for the season and Fonoti is still gone several weeks.
Treadwell has potential but was hurt and unable to practice until the last couple weeks.
Line play is so much about continuity, these injuries are a problem that is going to be hard to solve.
The good news, I thought Maxwell played pretty well considering the circumstances. They had no running game. He still dealt with quite a few drops from his wideouts, and it has to be hard for him to have a lot of confidence in the o-line. BUt he hasn't thrown a pick since the first half of the opener so he's making pretty good decisions.
There are just so many other problems on offense right now.
And the defense has only been very good, when the teams needs them to be Great.
Still a long way to go, and with the division set up, this was a game MSU wants to lose if they are gonna lose one. Still control their own destiny in their division. And the rest of the conference doesn't look like it has any world beaters either.
Haha overreact much?
ReplyDeleteMaybe. The offensive line is going to be a struggle from here on out.
DeleteIll have my weekend recap up tomorrow. I am still in a bitter mood.
